Scrap Paper Crazy Quilting

As many of you know, my background in the arts and crafts world comes from my involvement in the quilting industry. I saved all of my scraps as I created my projects from Front Porch Kits- Nature's Charm to use on the layout entitled Lucky.
Crazy quilting comes from The Victorian Era where random shapes of usually silks, satins, and velvets were used. The challenge after the fabrics were sewn to a background fabric was to see how many different embroidery stitches you could use .
I started with a 12 X 12 piece of neutral cardstock and a stack of scraps. Really, the best thing you can do is close your eyes and pick up a scrap. Place that piece of paper in the upper left corner. I use repositionable adhesive so I can move pieces if I need to. Continue to pick up scraps often changing the direction as you add more. The challenge is not to have vertical or horizontal lines that divide the page......Random is the Way!!!!
Once you have covered your background cardstock, it is time to add a photo mat. Sometimes it is hard to cover up any of the scraps and often this type of background works best with only one photo mat. You can go back now and machine stitch, hand stitch,or faux stitch along the "seams". I do this often with my scraps and the layouts always look different. It is really a great way to utilize your scraps.
I hope you will try this method.
Happy Paper Quilting!
A new Front Porch Kit will be coming soon from The Little Blue House. Visit their blog: www.thelittlebluehouseblog.blogspot.com or online at: www.thelittlebluehouseonline.com.
